Examples of Film Openings

We looked at a number of different film openings from the Horror genre, the opening should last 2miniutes sometimes a little over on some of the following films. This gave us a bit of an idea for our own film presentations.

CLERKS.
Directed by Kevin Smith-1994.
mise en scene- small room-no wealth.
character lifestyle- clothes everywhere/messy/unorganised=lazy.
get the impression of drunk or stupid character.

TRICK OR TREAT
Directed by Charles Martin Smith-1986.
50seconds of logo/production.
Panning used.


HALLOWEEN.
Directed by Jogn Carpenter-1978.
Purely titles.
One production company logo used.
Exposition and settinf done by onscreen titles and voice overs (background information)
Filterblue-polysemet-cold.
Music interferes with Heartbeat which is intense,

BRIDE OF CHUCKY.
Directed by Ronnie Yu- 1998.
First shot-flag USA
Blue filter-again polysemet and blue=cold.
raining/nightime- old school signifiers of horror.
extreme closeup=exposition.
hockeymask used=refrence to friday 13th.
male gaze included.
False scare and shot variation.
